Bear Necessities Communication Moved: Same Strategy. Different Latitude.

If you are familiar with Bear Necessities Communication over this last year, you may have noticed a tiny operational update. And by tiny, I mean roughly 4,300 miles.

After a full year of serving a handful of clients from the rainy, mountain-wrapped corners of Juneau, Alaska, Bear Necessities Communication has officially relocated to Pensacola, Florida.

Before anyone imagines a corporate reinvention involving tropical fonts and flamingo logos, let me reassure you:

Same strategy. Same focus. Same clients. Same communication philosophy.

Just fewer snow shovels.

The move itself was surprisingly smooth. Boxes arrived. Furniture survived. Coffee supplies remained under continuous federal protection. Most importantly, client work never skipped a beat.

That part matters.

Because Bear Necessities Communication has never been about geography. It has always been about people. Whether supporting organizations navigating complexity, leaders communicating through change, or teams trying to make sense of competing priorities, the work remains rooted in the same AC-SE approach:

Audience-Centered: It starts with people. What are they seeing, feeling, saying, and doing? What do we want them to understand, value, and act upon?

Context-Aware: Every message lives somewhere. Timing matters. Culture matters. Environment matters. What works during calm seas rarely works during storm surge.

Simplicity-Driven: Complexity may impress the writer. Clarity serves the audience.

Engagement-Focused: Isn't about a megaphone. It is a relationship.

That philosophy traveled beautifully from Alaska to Florida. The office scenery, however, underwent a dramatic personality shift.

For years, my Juneau workspace offered mountains, snow, rain, and weather forecasts that occasionally sounded like survival documentaries.

Florida, meanwhile, has introduced me to sunshine, palm trees, and the strange realization that people voluntarily eat lunch outdoors in January.

There are trade-offs, of course.

In Alaska, I worried about black ice. In Florida, people casually discuss humidity as though it is a distant relative who visits often and stays too long.

Still, Pensacola offers something exciting: energy, opportunity, and a growing community filled with new connections, ideas, and possibilities. More places to explore. More sunshine for the soul. More opportunities to continue doing work I genuinely love.

This move also arrives during what may qualify as the most overachieving retirement chapter on record.

This year marks my sixty-fourth trip around the sun, my first full year of retirement from federal service, and my final year pursuing a PhD in Communication, with graduation set for May 2027.

Apparently, retirement and I negotiated very different contracts. Some people retire and perfect golf. I retired and enrolled in dissertation spreadsheets, coding protocols, mixed methods research, client consultations, fitness goals, and strategic afternoon naps.

The naps are non-negotiable.

And through it all, Bear Necessities Communication remains exactly what clients have come to expect: trusted counsel, strategic thinking, practical communication solutions, and an unwavering commitment to helping people communicate with clarity and purpose.

So yes, the business moved.

The mission did not.

The mountains became beaches. The raincoat became sunscreen. The office soundtrack shifted from rainfall to seagulls staging what sounds suspiciously like committee meetings.

But the work? Still grounded. Still strategic. Still, audience-centered communication.

Good communication is not about where you sit. It is about how well you understand the people you serve. And if you happen to be wondering whether a communication company called Bear Necessities feels at home in Florida…

Funny story.

Did you know Florida has bears, too? Apparently, even the bears appreciate good weather.
